A field guide for New Mexico: journeys through high desert, historic settlements, art hubs, mineral springs and river valleys.
Inside Wildsam New Mexico, you’ll find a state that has mesmerized travelers for centuries. Our guide navigates from vibrant cities to wilderness expanses, and across centuries to discover the deep-rooted living traditions in art, craft, foodways and architecture that set New Mexico apart. Itineraries encompass all of the state’s diverse regions; our careful editorial selections, guided by local expertise, identify the most essential culinary, cultural and outdoor experiences. Along the way, we meet eighth-generation weavers, adobe artisans, wood-fire potters, hot-air balloon pilots, chefs, architects and artists who embody New Mexico’s heritage and craft its future.

“IT’S IMPORTANT TO know that land is the original Indigenous lands of the Piro Pueblo. There are adobe buildings built by my great-grandparents around the turn of the century. They got the dirt from the yard to make the adobe bricks, the wood for the vigas from the Rio Grande Mountains. They placed a manta underneath the vigas to catch the dirt from the original earthen roofs. Adobe architecture is not just earth, it’s other materials.”
